VANESSA CROCKFORD
I have eighteen years experience of working in mental health services. I presently manage a Therapy department in an In patient setting for people who experience a variety of mental health problems.
As a State Registered Occupational Therapist with 18 years experience the philosophy underpinning my work focuses on an understanding of the impact of mental ill health on day to day life.
I have a foundation certificate in Transactional Analysis and a Certificate in Counselling. I am currently undertaking Advanced clinical psychotherapy training at The Berne Institute working towards my MSc examination in Transactional Analysis psychotherapy and the award of Certified Transactional Analyst. This is accredited by The United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy.
I have worked in a variety of statutory mental health settings and therefore have comprehensive knowledge of mental health issues.
In addition to this I have experience working for Sheffield AIDS line and RETHINK, a mental health charity.
...I have also witnessed how people have recovered from pain and distress with support and robust therapeutic intervention.
ABOUT MY COUNSELLING SERVICE
I have Counselling practises in Sheffield, Chesterfield and Derbyshire, and offer individual, couples and family therapy.
The types of problems people bring are;
- relationship difficulties/breakdowns,
- stress,
- anxiety,
- manic depression,
- PTSD and psychotic experiences,
- bereavement and
- parenting difficulties.
Over the years I have seen how profoundly mental distress can impact on people's ability to function and "get by" on a day to day basis; how mental illness and distress can impact on the whole family. However I have also witnessed how people have recovered from pain and distress with support and robust therapeutic intervention. I work with people in a way which fosters hope through the belief that;
- Everyone is OK.
- We all have the capacity to think
- We all have the ability to decide what is right for us.
PROFESSIONAL BODIES
I am a member of The Institute of Transactional Analysis (ITA) and The European Association for Transaction Analysis (EATA). I am also registered to The British Association of Occupational Therapy (BAOT)
I adhere strictly to their codes of ethics for professional practice and am subject to their complaints procedures.
All practice is supervisor by a qualified trainer and supervisor.
